Which is the safest way to ship a laptop to India, without te risk of it being taken, stolen or tampered with?
Often, (almost always) when one sends something to India from the US, it never reaches because it doesnt get past custom or whatever. Which is a SURE way for it to reach there?

Answer 1 :
?
Answer 2 :
Say it is toxic chemicals or radioactive then no one will mess with it.
Answer 3 :
DHL
Answer 4 :
yeah send it courier. Thats how I get my absinth. More expensive. I think it does show up DHL
Answer 5 :
Fed-ex. Delivers anything from anywhere in the world. Good at it. Take Care
Answer 6 :
Take it in your 'lap' on the plane with you and hand it to the one you want to get it unmolested
Answer 7 :
do not send it!! India is a difficult country when it comes to customs, try sending it with someone traveling to that country. DHL or UPS may help you, consult with them before sending that kind of item.
Answer 8 :
i have never tryed to send a package out that way but i would try fedex or ups that way you can keep trac of it and know wher it is at all times on line good luck
Answer 9 :
It would be totally wrong to say that it never reaches because....It is not today but for the past 20+ years we have been receiving and sending articles from/to world over, till date not a single article has been missed or lost! It is far easier to blame others to cover one's own foolishness or carelessness or non-compliance of laws of the land. Choose a proper carrier at your end, send complete papers alongwith required number of copies, declaration about articles and complete address, telephone number etc. of the recipient and sender. Avoid loose talks and catch hold of the courier / carrier with firm hand at your end if it fails to deliver, once accepting the consignment to deliver. It is the contract which the carrier has to fulfill or return the consignment, Indian customs have nothing to do with your articles, they are there to seek compliance of the law the same way the customs of your own country are under obligation to perform.
Answer 10 :
Its recommended to use a courier like DHL or FEDEX . Declare the right value of the goods. Enclose the courier invoice with proper make, model no. & market value in US Dollars. Before exporting this outbound shipment be sure what is the prevailing duty sturcture on Laptops in India. For the same you can email the courier company to know the duties. I think laptop comes under 'personal effects' header. Calculate the landing cost with Laptop value + Freight + duties + octroi + courier company's custom clearence charges, then judge yourself that is it really worth exporting, or its better to buy the same laptop from India. Its a myth that in India its difficult to import personal goods, people are importing fragile items like expensive swarvoski crystals, cutlery, statues etc by couriers & they reaching very safe. If you are ready to pay the basic custom duty then no way any custom officer can haress you. Get you laptop insured fully & choose courier company's post paid option (courier freight charges to be paid by the receiver, at time of delivery).
Answer 11 :
The Best safest way is to ask somebody coming to bring it along! That s how I am planning to get mine! Now the customs people don't bother if you carrying 1 laptop per person...so its easy to get it in just like that! Ask any one of your relatives coming from US or anywhere to get it... Whats more- you can actually select, configure and pay for it on the WEB only- just using a credit card! www.dell.com!! Cheers$

Answer 1 :
buy it in australia.
Answer 2 :
in australia
Answer 3 :
India makes good computer.. buy it from thier..
Answer 4 :
You should try to compare prices so you get the most for your money. 1.00 Indian rupee = $0.03 Australian $1.00 Australian = 34.62 Indian rupees
Answer 5 :
I would buy it over there. If you bought it in India and had issues with it, it might be hard to get tech support/warranty repairs. (Or at the least it could be expensive with shipping from Australia to India and back.) Not to mention the AC outlets in Australia might be different then those in India so you might have to buy an adapter to plug it in. (Better to buy one later, if you still have the laptop when/if you return to India.)
Answer 6 :
Think about guarantee and I would suggest buy it in Australia.
Answer 7 :
you need to provide more background information, esp. e.g. where in India, and what level of education. If you never own a laptop before and going to be in India for 3 or more years, I would buy it in India so that you can get all the technical support when you are there. If you already use a laptop and want to have a new laptop, then the reasons I could think of and to buy one in India are still good but bring the old laptop with you.

Can laptop purchased in the US be repaired in India?
Can laptop purchased in the US be repaired in India?
I am planning to purchase Compaq laptop from the US for my brother who is in India. My question is if there is any fault with the hardware or if something gets broken (like screen )can it be repaired in India. Is it covered in the manufacturer's warranty? Is the system globaly warrantied and for what all things? Anyone who wants to share tips. Thanks.

That is a good question w/only one answer...Check out HP's web site, look for the "contact us" link and simply call/mail with that very question. The last thing you want to do is ask the seller because I'm sure they will say "yes" with a huge smile on their faces. They don't care, after it's gone...it's gone. It can be repaired anywhere but warranty work is a different animal all together. Good Luck!!!

Answer 1 :
if you need it that badly get it in india
Answer 2 :
I would have to say in India just because any time you call for computer tech support you always get someone who is in India.
Answer 3 :
buy it in radioshak my little friend they always have the best prices
Answer 4 :
I'm not sure what you mean by 'cheap' as in used or new? If new you might want something that offered a warranty supported in the U.K. However, if I were you I would wait and buy it in the U.K. at a place where you can at least take it back if it needs repaired or upgraded. Why don't you visit the: Home > Local Businesses > United Kingdom section of Yahoo Answers and ask a question sharing where you will be located and what are some good local computer stores to find a great price on a notebook? Good Luck!
Answer 5 :
Buying electronic goods and items in UK is not cheap. UK has higher tariffs and duties than other European countries. I suggest you take a flight with a layover at either UAE at Dubai or if not THEN go to Ireland and take a flight out of UK from Dublin in Republic of Ireland instead. Reason being You will easily save some 5 top 10 % in cost if you buy it outside UK. Or cross the english channel and buy it in France , it can still be cheaper. Moral of the story :- Buying a Laptop in UK is not cheap and UK's tax structure wont give you a good deal, better buy it India you will atleast get the techsupport and warranty valid in South Asia.!!!
Answer 6 :
You must spend your money for the best brand. As I know HP and Dell are the best in laptops for a long time and they are very reliable too. I trusted HP and I bought a HP laptop 2 years before, and still like the day I bought it. Didn't even have to service it at least once up to now. I recommend you to buy a HP (with experience) or Dell laptop. On www.hp.com you can even customize your laptop. And also you can check the price.
